USE IN KLORANE PRODUCTS

Our papyrus is cultivated in Spain using techniques that respect the surrounding ecosystem. The quality of each plant harvested is controlled in accordance with KLORANE Phytofiliereｮ specifications. The tubers are finely ground to produce a golden yellow oil, and a milk is then obtained by emulsification. This is incorporated into KLORANE’s nourishing and smoothing shampoo and hair care products with papyrus milk.

PLANT EXTRACT CHARACTERISTICS

Papyrus is a herbaceous perennial of the Cyperaceae family that was already used in ancient Egypt to treat the hair. We have chosen to cultivate the Cyperus esculentus L. species for its high phospholipid and fatty acid content, which are components naturally found in the hair shaft.

BOTANICAL FACT SHEET

Cyperus esculentus L. is a herbaceous perennial of the papyrus family. It has a triangular stem with a yellow underground rhizome that produces at its extremities comestible tubers rich in fatty acids, polar lipids, phosphorus and potassium. Its light green, linear leaves resemble blades of grass, and its cream-coloured flowers form spikelets. Historically, Cyperus esculentus L. originates from the Mediterranean basin and is thought to have been brought to Spain by the Arabs in the 9th century. Today, it is mainly found in North Africa and southern Spain.

TRADITIONAL USES

The first uses of Cyperus esculentus L. were described in the Ebers papyrus in 1551 BC. This document, which dates back to ancient Egypt, is one of the oldest medical documents, and notably contains a description of remedies prepared using cooked or raw papyrus rhizome powder. Combined with valerian, wheat, fat and honey, these remedies were recommended for boosting hair vitality.

Action

This extra-gentle shampoo with papyrus milk nourishes and relaxes the hair shaft. It leaves hair supple and shiny, and prepares it for straightening. Hair is bouncy, glossy and easy to style.

Application

Apply to wet hair and leave for 1 to 2 minutes to allow the active ingredients to penetrate. Rinse thoroughly.
