Our nasturtium is cultivated in southwest France using techniques that respect the surrounding ecosystem, and the quality of each plant harvested is controlled in accordance with KLORANE Phytofiliereｮ specifications. The flowers are picked by hand and, after drying, the active agent they contain is concentrated in the form of an extract. This is then incorporated into KLORANE’s shampoo with nasturtium.
Nasturtium is native to South America, and is traditionally used for its antiseptic properties. We have chosen to cultivate the Tropaeolum majus L. species for its high glucotropeolin content, a molecule with powerful purifying virtues of scientifically proven efficacy.
The nasturtium is a herbaceous plant whose creeping roots produce stems that will climb if they find something they can attach themselves to. It has round, alternate leaves described as peltate because the petiole grows in the centre of the leaf. This shield or trophy-like appearance is the reason for the plant’s Greek name: “tropaion”. Its trumpet shaped flowers are a bright orange-yellow colour.
Used since the dawn of time in Mexico and Peru for its disinfectant, healing and expectorant properties, nasturtium is now used in dermo-cosmetology to treat skin, nail and scalp affections or bronchial problems. Its seeds, which have a strong laxative effect, can be eaten in the form of capers.
