Calendula is used in KLORANE baby products for its soothing and softening properties.
Calendula extract is obtained from its dried calyxes, which are rich in carotenoids.
Calendula is an annual herbaceous plant that grows to between 12 and 20 inches high. Its branching, angular, hairy stems have alternate, sessile, oblong, spatulate leaves and broad, solitary, terminal capitula with saffron-yellow flowers. Its fruit is a spiny, almost annular, achene. Native to the Mediterranean region, it is now cultivated in all the temperate regions of the world.
Calendula flowers are traditionally used externally for their anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties, and internally as an emmenagogue, choleretic and antispasmodic agent. It is most commonly used in cosmetics and ointments. Marigold is used for its moisturizing, softening and healing virtues.
